Ok well I saw some dragsters at the track today, and thought it would be cool to make an RC one from scratch. Yes I know there are kits and it is probably much lighter to just buy one. But I thought it would be fun to make it from scratch. I like to build things myself if I can. Anyways, I went to home depot and got some metal to build the dragster. Heres what I got so far. Any comments are welcomed.

Looks like a good start. What you plan on running?

nice start. are you brazing it? if so could you do like a how to in this topic of the build up with what you need to braze etc.. id like to learn how, and id like to build a larger scale dragster sometime..

Im probably gonna get my friend to spot weld the joints together. Im not positive yet though. Also Im gonna drop a brushless system into it if I can get my hands on one.

Also you might wanna look into a 2 speed Transmission. At this scale, it is very possible biggrin.gif.

I have to advocate for Castle Creation Brushless systems. Adjustable everything...
baratacus
definitely a 2 speed setup. With brushless motors you can get so much high end torque that you can run really tall gears on it. Problem being good low end acceleration with such tall gears is impossible. Lower gears you can flip a dragster on its back, but it's top end is limited.

Hopper is building a 1:32 scale dragster and has a much more limited space. Any 2 speed gear boxes I've seen are for larger scale RC and would probably fit your aplication.

Im not sure whether im going to use a 2 speed setup or not. I can always mod it later. Right now I just want something I can drive in the office parking lot.

Also expect an update this weekend. I only have time to work on it on weekends now, so progress will be slow.

Wait... drive in a parking lot? Like, in a straight line?

I'd be curious to see how it would handle when you turn it.
coolcar24th
Well my office parking lot is huge. The guys that work in the ware house each have some RCs, so we race pretty often. And no this thing wont be doing much turning. Just straight lines.

Little update. I just went out and bought myself a welder, now I wont have to rely on my friend for welding. So ill be welding up the chassis this weekend. smile.gif

well i'm interested in this topic! This seems like a really fun project!

Is wleding something that anyone could do? (or at least anyone here on mrcc)

Ug I really needa update this. I got it all welded up already. I just need to post pics. Ive been wayy too busy to deal with it. I cant really remember how much my welder was. It was cheap though. And I think welding is pretty easy. Im sure you can learn the basics of welding in an hour or so.
