Welcome to my new project! There doesn't seem to be much being done with the 1:24 SSMT's. Sure their axles arn't as nice, but it'll do. Here's what I've come up with. It's a crawler, or is it a mudder? I havn't decided yet. Anyways, lets see some pics.

Here's just a mockup. I'm using a silverado model truck body. It needs a bunch of work.

First thing was to get the axles seperated so I could get the extension in.

Again, I havn't decided if I want to gear it down and have a rock crawler with the LRSM shocks, or keep it speedy and have a mudder. What I really would like would be to have some sort of transmission, a high and a low. I can go muddin until I get to the rocks, then switch it into low and really make it crawl. Either way, I think I'm having the motors and gears in the middle, driving the shaft.

Looks like a cool project. What esc are you going to use?
zzapultimate
I'm probably going to use the stock electronics. I thought about using xmod's, but I don't think it will be able wheels that size.

Update:

Gearbox. I decided to go with a crawler. Pinion gear, plus 4 transfer gears onto the axle gear. I'll have to calculate that sometime.

Flexing on the rear...

Flexing on front... I wont need all of that flex, unfortunatly biggrin.gif The wheel wells will only allow for about 3 inches of artic.

A mockup to show ride hight.

To do list:

Paint chassis black
Mount body
Add electronics
Make servo mount
Lock diffs

i like it!!!

that's some very nice custom work,

straight up micro-tlt.

i want one now lol.

That's good work man.

Don't feel offended when I say this....

What's it held together with ? I hope not CA glue....please no...
You defenitly need to shave back your skid plate to be flush with the chassis.

Also I'd recommend brass for the gearbox, I've said that before, glued together plastic ain't going to hold a torque'y 130 motor with reduction...
zzapultimate
What's wrong with CA ? biggrin.gif

Shaving is on the to do list(although not listed.

I don't have any brass to work with. LHS isn't so local. I'll see what happens.

keep up the good work! can't wait to see the finish project and hear how it performs!
Joe717
CA, well, holding a chassis together, your asking for it a little... tongue.gif

Anyway, as for the brass, If you can make a trip to the LHS sometime, buy a fair amount of it, I bought a huge load of unsorted brass tubing, and brass plate, it's not amazingly cheap for what it looks when you buy it, but once you use it, you'll appreciate what's possible from such a small amount.

Brass FTW! biggrin.gif

I wired up the batts and hooked up the motor. You were right joe, it destroyed my gearbox. I had to tear it apart. It's sitting on my bench now.

It looked good it the pic though tongue.gif

you can also buy sheets of tin flashing at the hardware store. you can get a stack of about 100 pieces 6"x12" over in the section they sell rain gutter and roofing. You can bend the stuff with a bench vise, or a strong pair of pliers and it cuts with tin snips or a hacksaw. Its very cheap metal, and good for fabricating chassis' and gear boxes. You can solder or braze the joints or just use some JB weld.

That sucks....I'm not going to say I told you so, though. You tried, and failed...so now you can build it better. cool.gif

And yea, it looks great in the pictures!

And at least you know your gearbox has torque too. wink.gif
zzapultimate
Yeah, I thought I'd go ahead and try and see what happens.

Thanks for the tip barat. I actually think I have a few of thoes sheets. I'll check it out.
