Full Version: Equipping a bishmark with secondaries.

Hi everyone.
Would it be possible to use say a 1/144 Bishmark like the one that swampworks sells and equip the secondaries? or are they too small?
And also other ships with the 1/144 scale like the Graaf spee and so on.
As of right now I'm not concernd about breaking any rules since we are alone and will start making rules as we go along, but want to have a ship that is realistic and the secondaries are there for a reason.

Yes you can, the only limitation you have is your imagination.

...And of course the number of channels you have available on your rc equipment. happy.gif

In reality, I would not look to adding secondaries to a ship. We are looking at that in 1/72nd for the battleships, not because of that is the way they were, but because they are so vulnerable to the destroyers and light crusiers, that they need the secondaries to stay in a firefight.
If you are on your own and are looking at starting your own club, look at the rules that we have in our club and feel free to use them to set a basis for your own club.

A big problem in arming a lot of guns is expense. If you start making the boats too expensive you will have trouble attracting new members. Also the game should not be about destroying each others ships, but about having fun in trying to build a strong well working and good looking model that fights.
I like the way that our club is set up to build accurate models with a limited amount of guns so that you can be proud of the way your boat looks and you can fight the boat without tearing each other up.

I'm a little curious. I know absolutely nothing about this hobby. Quick question, then I will go back to my corner for a while. From what I have seen from threads in this forum, every ship must be sinkable. Hulls are constructed of soft stuff to allow this to be possible. Many battleships were actually pretty heavily armored. Is this taken into account at all, or are battleships in this hobby pretty much just bigger targets?

The Battleship's have not made an appearance at the Queens Own, yet, and that is what a lot of the discussion is about (i. e. how do you do it and still make the game playable?). But there would still be some basic advantages to the BB's. They would have a larger amount of positive bouyancy, so it would take a butt ton of water inside the hull to sink them. They would also have bigger bilge pumps, so they would be able to take more damage before having to worry about their pumps not keeping up with the amount of incoming water.

There have been cruisers in the game for a while, and I have not heard of any cruiser sinking, but with all the availabe hull surface area, they do take a lot of damage. It is still fun to the guns on a cruiser rotating onto target, and firing a devestating salvo. It is also fun to see everyone on the bank scurry when the direction of the shot happens to be back toward the home port (1/4" inch ball bearings hurt when they hit you, even if they have skipped a couple times off of the water.

Also, putting all the stuff you need to make you ship competative fits alot easier into a larger hull, and you have the weight allowance to put into action some innovative stuff without having to strip anything else out of your boat. I don't know how many times I have rearranged the inside of my destroyer, but I will be able to make my BB interior look as cluttered as my garage.

Sigh-a nara,

As the Most Exuldated One. The Supreme High Commander. His Emperial Highness Luigi Yamamoto has mentioned the BB's have not been in the game as of yet, but we are working on it. Because of their size, they really are only a larger cruiser like target. This is what appears to be the focus of the discussion. Other than the appearance and the pure asthetic appearance of a R/C ship of that size, the BB's do not provide one with any advantage over a cruiser. There has also been some discussion about giving the BB's an extra 1/8" balsa sheeting to the areas that would be belted on a really battleship. In this way the ship would have an advantage over the cruisers in that their hulls would be a little more resistant to a heavy round.

Well I'm taking back this thread smile.gif
hehe
Umi well the once I have spoken with were thinking of equiping a ship like the bischmark with secondaries and let the cannon fire be monitored by a system like the one shown in the other thread, where you only aim the direction and target distance and then a onboard chip takes care of the mathematics and aims the turrets.
As you might now by now I am kind of a technical freak so I like solutions like that smile.gif

The real question I had was what kind of bb were small secondaries on a 1/144 shoot? and would they be able to do any real damage?
