I don't have all the resources to buy ever Micro R/C on the planet, so I enjoy looking of pictures of other peoples cars. Also, I found out that you can do several modifications to the different various types of cars. That is one reason that I joined this site, to see what other people are doing with their micros

Car of the Month is a great showcase for all of the different types of Micro R/C's, and I am always amazed at the variety and different types of cars that are entered.
I enjoy looking at pictures of these cars, and quite often I see posted requests for past COTM winners.

For this reason, I have created this thread that contains pictures of all of the past winners of COTM along with links to the contests that they were featured in. It is my hope that this list will continue to be updated, and will not be lost to obscurity.

Now, October seems to be the first contest, but it looks like no one entered. Also, there was no contest for December. However, here is the list of all of the contests & winners so far.

[OTP Edit: Found one more contest for you+ one winner in the gallery+one from my HDD, the threads seems to have gone]

Cool idea. I was really surprised to see my Beetle as I scrolled down smile.gif

COTM was run as early as July (I believe) the winner was a decalled RX-7, the next winner (but not the next month) was a Honda NSX "West". I'll see if I can find those contests.

MK, shouldn't something like this be in the photo gallary?

PS. The Beetle is currently being re-worked with more detail. Still my fav body.

Car of the month will be coming soon at the end of the month, and I have a little suggestion for those that are going to submit their entries. I have noticed in the last COTM that there have been some entries that have been taken using a flatbed scanner. While we welcome all entries, and it doesn't really matter how you submit it, you might consider planning ahead and first taking a picture with a roll of film. If you are planning a vaction soon, you can add a couple of pictures at the end of the roll, and get them all developed at once. You can then scan the pictures in. This allows your car to make a good impression, and get the attention it deserves.

Now if you have a digital camera, or are considering getting one for this purpose, remember that we only allow pictures that are 400 pixels wide. This means that you don't need anything fancy to get a decent picture. However, I do recomend a camera that is at least 640x480 resolution. Remember, though, that unless you get a more expensive megapixel camera, a photograph and a flatbed scanner will probably produce the best results. Most households have at least one film based camera.

Sometimes the cheapest solutions are the best.

Take care all,

M7

P.S. Car of the Month will be announced in a seperate post by MysticKnight.
The winner will be posted here.

The Craft of the Month winner will be displayed in the upper left corner of this site, so even though innovation is part of the consideration, presentation will tip the scales between similar craft. When submitting a vehicle, ask yourself if it is something that would look good displayed on this site.

This shouldn't be a discouragement from entering, but rather encourage you to make the best presentation. If your camera is really bad quality, consider upgrading(or borrowing). If you are unsure of your painting skills, considering other mods such as wheels that will be complimentary, but keep the paint stock. If you do make a body from scratch, you shoud paint it. I can almost guarantee that an unpainted body that is mostly putty won't win without a coat of paint.

There really isn't a strict guideline. In general, a car doesn't need to be heavily modded to win, but I have seen some blown engine Honda truck mods that have actually looked rather good. Remember scale before sticking an engine on the hood. If the blower pulley is as big as your front wheels and sticking past the hood of your car, it will be less believable. Consider driver visability too. There is room for variation, and the paint doesn't need to be perfect. The COTM picture is 75 pixels high. A lot of the imperfections will disappear when the picture is shrunk.

I wish success to all entrants of the next contest.

After a brief break, we will once again be having Car of the Month starting with a contest for October.

Here is a COTM tip for October:
A good camera helps, but it is not 100% necessary. To get the best results from a digital based camera, invest in a tripod, or find some other way to keep the camera steady. This allows the camera to focus completely on the subject. Your pictures will be sharper with less blur.

Hey guys,
Just adding my picture so that maybe one of the mods can place it in the appropriate place (in the first post).

I know that technology is constantly improving. Manufacturing processes are also improving thanks in part to the competitive processor industry. I don't think that it will be too long before we see more products offered in the micro to mini range.

1:10 cars are nice, but they aren't the kinda of thing that you really want to run indoors. I tried that once. I thought I had everything under control at low speed. I ended up over reacting & sideswiping an entertainment cabinet pretty good. It bent a suspension part.

Even if you run one in a gym, or a hallway, you could wear out your welcome (and your tires) pretty fast leaving black streaks everywhere.

Micros & minis are cars that can be run in a lot more places, and I'm sure that it won't be long that we see a lot of lower cost (quality)alternatives to cars like the Mini-Z & Epoch. Competition will often improve the original product as well. The Xmod for example was a pretty good attempt at an alternative. It did fall short in some areas.

Once the manufacturers realize that it's not just young kids that play... er... participate in this hobby, there will be a lot more vehicles with higher end features.

It's also good to see some improvements in the Mini-X such as driveshaft bearings & "sealed" electronics.
