QUOTE(VMX @ Nov 29 2009, 10:46 PM) 1) Can the track be used flat on the floor or table, or must it be elevated with the trestles? 2) Can you use the track charger without the rest of the track? 3) If you didn't use the center divider, would the cars run better? 4) Have you tried running ZZs or other cars on the track? 1: The track has elevations molded into it so it needs the trestles under it to support it. 2: The charger can be used stand alone. It has contacts on the track that the car runs over. The contacts on the bottom of the car line up with the charger and you can charge the cars by parking in the charge area. It would help to construct a little ramp to drive up on the charger since it sits on a lip the same height as a section of track. 3: I fabricated metal clips to joint the center sections together, but even with them crimped on, they still popped loose after a few passes. I just took the mouse ears off the bumpers and ran without the barriers. You can drive one car very slowly through the course without the center divider, but it can be done. Racing another car on there would be like trying to street race in a parking garage... again... it can be done but only by someone who can solve a rubicks cube in 30 seconds and holds a worlds championship title in pingpong. (see Sean Boswell's Ford Fastback in "Tokyo Drift") 4: I've run a zz SE on the track, but it's difficult since the proportional control isn't quite as accurate. The metletech racer I have does well on the track, but I only have one of those now and Scarr is the only other person I know who has one. If you want an equivelant of the xtrec pro track, race on a slot car track and put some rails all the way around it to keep your cars on the track. That's pretty much what you're working with as far as dimensions go. A 4 lane track would be good for one or two cars at that scale. You could drive 2 cars on the same size track as the single car since you'll only be abreast of one another for brief periods and 4 lanes is more than enough to pass. You definitely need 4 lanes of width though to be able to manuever around the corners as well as turn yourself around without making a 10 point turn if you get spun around backwards. Baratacus, thanks again for all the helpful answers.
Perhaps, one of the add-on gears/motors that would make the ZZSE run slower (I don't know which color or motor type), would be an improvement? (Although, I understand to use only car with no center track dividers.) And if that doesn't work, I think I will abandon the idea of using this track for Micro RC racing. It would be really cool someone would design something wider, with strong and high enough barriers. For racing 2 cars, the Sizzler FAT track (since it is wider) looks like a better option. Steelo, who, unfortunately, hasn't been around recently, said the stock ZZSE cars were too slow to make it around the curves. But since the Trek Pro (XTP) cars are faster, they probably could handle it. If anyone happens to have a FAT track and XTP car, could you please try it out, and see how it handles the curves and track in general? Thanks again. |
