(I thought there was a thread on this already, but I couldn't find it, so...)
Takara and Konami will be releasing a new addition in the Digi-Q line, a series of IR combat tanks that can inflict incremental degrees of 'lazer tag' like damage on each other, subsequently lowering the enemy tank's energy level, displayed on the controller. They are also said to have different combat attributes, depending on the model (which could mean one moves faster, one is harder to disable, etc). Two models are slated for initial release, with more to follow. A Thai news page says the 'Combat Digi-Q' is equipped with two micro motors (like the Digi-Q cars), two small nickel-hydrogen (?)batteries and CPU unit on a 55mm long body. Unlike the more 'deformed' Digi-Q cars, these tanks have much higher realistic detail than the upcoming Tomy tanks. My money is on these, even if they wind up costing more (which is likely). Word has it they'll be out in Japan by September 1. -------------------- 1/43 & smaller - BCG/Clones/ZZSE / Puchi Maru / Indoor Racer Spec-2 WRX: 4-cell / Combat Digi-Q Tiger & Sherman | 1/20's - ABC DTM X4 & SP: Orion Core Motor, Spy ESC, Tekin Micro Rx, HS-81MG | 1/18 Mini-T: Mamba brushless , shocks, bearings, 7.2v, etc. / HPI RS4: BB 300, 7.2v

I think the batteries are NiMH, Nickel Metal Hydride, not Nickle-Hydrogen.
Hard to believe they're packing all that into a chassis only 55mm long. -------------------- 27Mhz Trueno w/2.6

Yeah, the article was in pretty iffy English to begin with... That's why I put the (?) there. I cleaned up some of the more obvious mistakes.
Anyway, they do seem bigger than Digi-Q's or even BCG's in the pic... I'm blown away at the detail. They're not hardly 'SD' at all. I hope they come two to a set, or are at least under $80 each so I can grab a couple. A friend and I used to play 'Tractics', an old tank wargame up at his cabin in the Sierras when we were kids. It'd be fun to bring these Combat-Q's up there and have a modern day version! b -------------------- 1/43 & smaller - BCG/Clones/ZZSE / Puchi Maru / Indoor Racer Spec-2 WRX: 4-cell / Combat Digi-Q Tiger & Sherman | 1/20's - ABC DTM X4 & SP: Orion Core Motor, Spy ESC, Tekin Micro Rx, HS-81MG | 1/18 Mini-T: Mamba brushless , shocks, bearings, 7.2v, etc. / HPI RS4: BB 300, 7.2v

Damn, those look/sound pretty cool. I might get one eventually cause they look so cool, but it sounds like they might still have that problem with the IR crappy-ness. Also, how much speed diference could you have between them? They would have to go rather slow to see any major difference from one to another.
I gotta say it again. I gotta get me a Desktop Rover. Really long range, laser-tag capabilities, lots of torque (which i would suspect these 5 and a half centimeter tanks can't have much of), and only 4" long. Not quite as portable, but look to be really cool. I mean, the whole being able to climb over stuff on your desk... damn... -------------------- -Originator of the Mod Squad

But they don't do anything? They don't shoot or anything? Sounds really boring compared to what is coming out and is already out...

An update on this...
Konami's website lists a new section for the 'Combat DigiQ' tanks including list prices: Panther G and T34/85 'basic operation sets' at 5,980 Yen each (about $50.80 as of today). Not bad! I thought they'd be more expensive. Also listed for future release: - Tiger I type - M 4 Sherman - Ground Self-Defense Force 90 type tank - Ground Self-Defense Force 74 type tank Sounds cool... Except the September 19th release date. Here's the site: http://www.konami.co.jp/cp/micro_ir/combat/index.html b -------------------- 1/43 & smaller - BCG/Clones/ZZSE / Puchi Maru / Indoor Racer Spec-2 WRX: 4-cell / Combat Digi-Q Tiger & Sherman | 1/20's - ABC DTM X4 & SP: Orion Core Motor, Spy ESC, Tekin Micro Rx, HS-81MG | 1/18 Mini-T: Mamba brushless , shocks, bearings, 7.2v, etc. / HPI RS4: BB 300, 7.2v

Hey, if you look at the tanks, there doesent seem to be any IR panel on the tanks to receive the signal from the remote....where is it?....is it hidden under the tank shell?
i thought it is necessary as the IR signal can be blocked by a sheet of paper? or is it using the bluetooth technology?? |

Maybe the little silver hatch on the top is the reciever? I dunno. Also, I just gotta say how I think its really cool how the different tanks have different stats (different speeds, attacking/defense strengths, and I'm not sure what the other one is...). These things look awsome. So much cooler than the Bit Char-G tanks... I'm sorry, but they look kinda pathetic.

The IR sensor is on the very top of the Tank
Goto this link and click on the first arrow on the right hand side of the page where it says 5,980yen. http://www.konami.co.jp/cp/micro_ir/combat...neup/index.html You'll see a close up of the tank....pretty sweet if you ask me. Think I will have to raid Japan and pick me up a pair. Now I just gotta find a way to get over to Japan so I can begin my raid. |
